Building My Veggie Garden

Building My Veggie Garden

Building my Veggie Garden is our educational video series on YouTube and other social media channels that addresses three concerns about sustenance: food availability, self-reliance, and interest in healthy food. The mission of the show is to equip our audience with tools to make better nutritious choices by exploring the world of vegetables with a wondering and playful mind. www.youtube.com/@buildingmyveggiegarden

Community Patch

Community Patch

We are building a community of gardeners in two community gardens in the Central Florida area. One of our patches is in St. Petersburg, FL. We try to grow mostly greens in this patch. One of our precious plants in this patch is chipilin, a perennial legume that is native to Central America. It is considered one of the 16 most important species of edible leaves in the world. Our Second patch is in Largo, FL. This is where we grow Roselle (hibiscus tea), an exquisite flower and one of the finest teas in the world. We also grow lemon grass, squashes and watermelons, among other veggies.

GARDEN FRIENDS

GARDEN FRIENDS

We are also building a community of gardeners who have transformed their backyard into a vegetable garden. Their experience is invaluable and we appreciate it when they use our YouTube channel to impart their wisdom. Our friends live in various cities in the Tampa Bay area. They all share our enthusiasm about the life wonders in vegetable gardening.

Food Forest Gardening Community

Food Forest Gardening Community

Located at the Beacon Food Forest, this garden is our educational center where families come to learn, and volunteers help us grow vegetables to give away in the food deserts of the Central Florida area. This program is a partnership with UUC. We have a main event once a month on the 4th Friday of the Month. At this event we have gardening classes for families. We also gather with our volunteers to work in our garden once a week.
